About This Model
The Hohner Double-Ray is a diatonic button accordion designed around Irish BC key tuning, making it a purpose-built instrument for traditional music. It features a 2- or 3-row treble layout with 21 treble buttons and 8 bass buttons, with the bass section using a 16-reed chord block that produces a 4-voice chord - two root notes an octave apart plus the third and fifth - from a single button press. The reeds are steel, mounted on zinc reedplates, with modern plastic one-way valves and felt-backed leather pads for a responsive, durable action. An anti-resonance cross-bar in the treble helps maintain clean note separation, and the instrument includes velcro-adjustable bass strap and shoulder strap brackets for playing comfort.
