About This Model

The Cambridge Audio SX-50 is a passive 2-way bookshelf speaker featuring a 135mm treated paper cone woofer and a 25mm silk dome tweeter, crossed over with an optimised network designed to maintain phase accuracy and linear response. The rigid MDF cabinet is computer-aided in its design to minimise internal resonance, while the single rear bass reflex port extends the frequency response down to 50 Hz — worth bearing in mind when positioning, as a few inches of wall clearance is recommended. With an 8-ohm impedance and sensitivity of 87–89 dB, the SX-50 works comfortably with amplifiers rated anywhere from 10 to 100 watts, making it at home with a wide range of integrated amplifiers. Connection is via rear binding posts accepting bare wire or banana plugs. Now discontinued, the SX-50 represented Cambridge Audio's entry into no-nonsense bookshelf speaker design.
