About This Model

The Sontronics DM-1S is a small-diaphragm condenser microphone built specifically for snare drum capture. Its cardioid polar pattern and compact 91 × 22 mm body allow close, precise placement on the snare rim without fouling nearby cymbals. The frequency response runs from 30 Hz to 20 kHz with a tailored presence boost in the 5–10 kHz range that brings out snare crack and articulation, while the bottom-end roll-off is less pronounced than on its sibling tom mic, the DM-1T. A built-in -10 dB pad switch raises the maximum SPL handling to 135 dB, keeping transient peaks clean at loud volumes. The mic requires 48 V phantom power via its 3-pin XLR connector and has an output impedance of ≤200 Ohms and a sensitivity of 16 mV/Pa, with a self-noise figure of 14 dB(A).
