About This Model

The Joe Meek VC3Q is a professional mic preamp and channel strip designed by Ted Fletcher, combining three distinct processing stages in a single unit: a mic preamp, an optical compressor, and a three-band equalizer (the Meekqualizer). The preamp is well-regarded for its distinctly coloured, round and full-bodied character - adding girth and tonal warmth rather than aiming for transparency. The optical compressor uses an LED and photocell circuit with switchable Fast/Slow attack, variable release, and variable compression controls. The three-band EQ is noted for its wide, musical curves. The VC3Q has been used across a broad range of sources including drums, DI bass, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and vocals, and is particularly noted for the euphonic colour it adds to stringed instruments and the way it brings out punch and definition in bass.
