The Joe Meek VC3Q is a professional mic preamp and channel strip designed by Ted Fletcher, combining three distinct processing stages in a single unit: a mic preamp, an optical compressor, and a three-band equalizer (the Meekqualizer). The preamp is well-regarded for its distinctly coloured, round and full-bodied character — adding girth and tonal warmth rather than aiming for transparency. The optical compressor uses an LED and photocell circuit with switchable Fast/Slow attack, variable release, and variable compression controls. The three-band EQ is noted for its wide, musical curves.
