About This Model

The Yamaha S90 is an 88-key stage synthesizer built around Yamaha's AWM2 (Advanced Wave Memory 2) sound engine, delivering up to 128 notes of polyphony. Its Balanced Hammer Effect keyboard with aftertouch is derived from Yamaha's digital piano actions, giving it a weighted, expressive feel suited to piano-focused performance. The S90 ships with 384 normal presets and 48 drum kits, and supports expansion via up to three optional PLG plug-in boards — opening the door to FM synthesis, vocoder, and drum expansion. Connectivity is comprehensive, covering main and assignable stereo outputs, audio input, breath controller, USB, MIDI IN/OUT/THRU, dual foot controller and foot switch sockets, and a headphone output. A 240×64 graphic backlit LCD and an mLAN expansion bay round out a versatile instrument that sat at the top of Yamaha's stage synth range from 2002 until it was succeeded by the S90ES in 2005.
