The Yamaha RM1x is a groovebox produced between 1999 and 2002 that combines a step-programmable drum machine, synthesizer, and music sequencer into one self-contained unit. Its sound engine is built around Yamaha's AWM2 sample-based tone generator, offering 32-voice polyphony across 16 timbres, with 654 patches and 46 drum kits on board. Each voice carries its own filter with cutoff, resonance, and envelope control. The unit is 16-part multitimbral and includes a built-in arpeggiator, onboard effects (reverb, chorus, and a range of variation effects), and a 3.5" floppy disk drive for pattern and song storage. A 2-octave pushbutton keyboard allows real-time and step-entry playback, and MIDI in/out supports integration with external gear.
