About this model
The Yamaha KX-580 is a 2-head, single-capstan stereo cassette deck built around a hard permalloy record/playback head and double-gap ferrite erase head, running at the standard tape speed of 4.76 cm/s with impressively low wow and flutter of ±0.05% WRMS. It supports all three tape types - Type I, CrO2, and Metal - with automatic tape recognition and automatic bias optimisation, plus a manual bias control and play-trim for fine high-frequency adjustment. Noise reduction is comprehensive, covering Dolby B, C, and S, with the S mode delivering a signal-to-noise ratio of 80 dB, alongside Dolby HX Pro headroom extension for cleaner high-level recordings. Frequency response stretches to 20 kHz with metal tape, and the deck includes a headphone output, line in/out connections, a cassette stabilizer, synchronized CD recording compatibility, and a wireless remote control.
