About this model

The Yamaha EMT-10 is a compact, half-rack MIDI sound expander module released in the late 1980s to complement Yamaha organs and Clavinova digital pianos. It uses Yamaha's Advanced Wave Memory (AWM) sampled sound technology to deliver 12 preset voices spanning acoustic and electric pianos, harpsichord, guitar, strings, brass, choir, and three bass types. Standard polyphony is 8 notes, expandable to 16 notes by pairing two units in even/odd note mode. Sustained voices can be layered (at 4-note polyphony) and bass voices can be split alongside other voices, giving flexible performance options from a single unit. The front panel provides hands-on control over fine pitch, brightness, and attack time, while a dedicated MIDI button handles transpose, octave shift, and touch curve settings. MIDI IN, THROUGH, and OUT connectivity makes it straightforward to integrate into any MIDI setup, and its half-rack format fits neatly into a standard 19-inch rack.
