About This Model
The Technics SL-P770 is a high-specification stereo CD player released in 1988, built around a 4-DAC 18-bit conversion system using dedicated D/A converters for each channel, designed to eliminate crossover distortion. Its 266th-order, 18-bit, 4-times oversampling digital filter feeds an analogue stage capable of a signal-to-noise ratio of 112 dB or more, dynamic range of 100 dB or more, and total harmonic distortion of 0.003% or less - figures that reflect serious engineering intent. Both coaxial and optical digital outputs are provided, each controllable via an on/off switch, alongside a variable headphone output rated at up to 60 mW into 32 Ω. A linear motor traverse mechanism drives high-speed disc access, while an independent dual-winding power transformer keeps audio and digital servo circuits isolated. UK models additionally feature a cueing wheel - a large dial for precise track-start location, derived from professional broadcast practice - along with an Edit Guide function and Digital Peak Search for tape recording workflows.
