About This Model
The Technics RS-TR474 is a dual-deck auto-reverse stereo cassette deck released in 1993, built around a 4-track, 2-channel stereo format with a tape speed of 4.8 cm/s. Each deck features its own record/playback head, playback head, and erase head, with a dual reel and dual capstan motor arrangement. It accepts Type I, CrO2, and Metal tapes, and offers both Dolby B and Dolby C noise reduction alongside HX Pro headroom extension. A standout feature is Auto Tape Calibration (ATC), which automatically tests and sets record level, bias, and EQ sensitivity before each recording session. The transport uses full-logic control with high-speed fast forward and rewind, motorised cassette lids, and auto shutoff at tape end. Monitoring is handled by a 4-digit digital tape counter and digital peak-reading VU meters, and the unit is compatible with an IR remote control.
