About This Model

The Tascam 788 Digital Portastudio is a self-contained 8-track recording workstation built around an internal 7.5GB hard drive, recording at 24-bit uncompressed resolution. It combines an 8-track recorder with a digital mixer and two built-in digital multi-effects processors. Four balanced jack inputs (A–D) handle mic and line signals, with input D offering a high-impedance instrument switch for direct guitar or bass recording. A SCSI 2 port enables direct backup and CD-R burning, while MIDI In/Out and a coaxial digital output extend connectivity further. Every channel carries a three-band parametric EQ, and the mixer supports up to 10 scenes per song for storing settings alongside full mix automation via its MIDI sequencer. Up to 250 virtual tracks per song and non-destructive cut/copy/paste editing make it a capable platform for serious home and project studio work.
