About This Model

The Sony MDS-JE510 is a home hi-fi Minidisc deck released in January 1997, designed for recording and playback of MD media via analogue and digital connections. It accepts RCA line-level input alongside a digital optical (TOSLINK) input, and outputs via RCA line out, digital optical out, and a headphone jack. Audio is encoded and decoded using Sony's ATRAC version 4.0, delivering a frequency response of 5-20,000 Hz (±0.3 dB) and a signal-to-noise ratio of over 96 dB. Internally, the JE510 shares its circuitry with the MDS-JE500 and MDS-S37. One known issue to be aware of across this model line is a tendency for the unit to switch on spontaneously, caused by a failure in the disc insertion sensor microswitch - worth checking if the unit will be left in a standby-sensitive setup.
