About This Model
The Shure SM58 is a cardioid dynamic microphone built around the Unidyne III moving-coil capsule, with a frequency response of 50-15,000 Hz tailored specifically for vocals - featuring a brightened midrange and bass rolloff. Its pneumatic shock-mount system isolates the capsule from handling noise, while a built-in spherical grille with reticulated foam lining reduces plosives and wind noise. The output is a balanced analog signal via a standard three-pin XLR connector, with an impedance of 150 Ω, requiring no phantom power. The SM58 has a long-standing reputation for rugged reliability on live stages worldwide.
