About This Model

The Rode M3 is a small-diaphragm cardioid condenser microphone built for studio, stage, and location recording. Its electret capsule sits within an internal shockmount inside a heavy-duty metal body, and captures a frequency range of 40 Hz to 20 kHz with a self-noise of 21 dB(A) and a maximum SPL handling of 142 dB - making it capable across both quiet acoustic sources and louder transient-heavy material. A selectable 80 Hz high-pass filter and internal -10 dB / -20 dB pad switches give it useful flexibility for different recording environments. Connectivity is via a standard XLR 3-pin output, and the M3 can run on either 24-48V phantom power or an internal 9V battery, which makes it genuinely portable for location use without a phantom-capable preamp.
