About This Model
The Korg Z1 is a 61-key digital synthesizer from 1997, built around Korg's MOSS (Multi-Oscillator Synthesis System) engine - widely recognised as the world's first multitimbral physical modeling synthesizer and the polyphonic successor to the Korg Prophecy. Its engine offers 13 synthesis algorithms spanning physical modeling, analog modeling, and Variable Phase Modulation (VPM), with each voice drawing on two modelled oscillators, a sub-oscillator, and a noise generator. The Z1 provides 12 voices of polyphony (expandable to 18 with the optional DSPB-Z1 board) and 6-part multitimbrality across MIDI channels. The semi-weighted 61-key keyboard includes velocity sensitivity and aftertouch, while performance tools include an XY touchpad, a polyphonic arpeggiator with user-definable patterns, and a dual insert effects section alongside master reverb, delay, and EQ. Connectivity covers stereo audio outputs, full MIDI IN/OUT/THRU, and pedal inputs, with optional ADAT digital output available via the DI-TRI expansion board.
