About This Model

The Denon DRM-555 is an auto-reverse single cassette deck built around a 2-motor DC servo tape drive mechanism and a 2-head configuration. It supports Type I, CrO₂, and Metal tapes via automatic tape selection, and includes both Dolby B and Dolby C noise reduction, delivering a signal-to-noise ratio of over 74 dB with Dolby C engaged. Dolby HX Pro headroom extension automatically optimises bias for whichever tape type is loaded, while a manual bias adjustment knob allows fine-tuning for specific tape brands. Frequency response runs from 20 Hz to 17 kHz (±3 dB), and wow and flutter is rated at 0.08% wrms. The fluorescent display features a 4-digit counter and peak-hold level meters spanning - 40 dB to +10 dB. Additional conveniences include CD Synchro Record for one-button recording from a CD player, Music Search, Memory Stop, Auto Space, and an MPX filter switch for FM radio recordings. A front-panel remote sensor supports the IS Remote Control System.
