About This Model

The Cambridge Audio DacMagic 100 is a compact Digital-to-Analogue Converter built around the Wolfson WM8742 24-bit DAC chip, offering a straightforward way to improve audio quality from digital sources. It accepts a broad range of digital inputs - asynchronous USB (USB 1.0/2.0 compatible), two coaxial S/PDIF connections, and one Toslink optical input - and supports digital word widths from 16 to 24-bit at sampling frequencies up to 192kHz. The asynchronous USB implementation hands clock control to the DAC itself, reducing jitter to under 130pS and keeping THD below 0.0025%. Output is via unbalanced RCA at up to 2.3V rms, with a signal-to-noise ratio of -113dBr. At just 106 × 46 × 130 mm and 0.5 kg, it sits neatly on a desk or equipment shelf and draws only 5W at maximum consumption - a practical entry-level hi-fi DAC with genuinely capable measured performance.
