About This Model

The Bowers & Wilkins DM603 S3 is a 2.5-way bass reflex floorstanding loudspeaker built around a 25mm alloy dome tweeter with tapered tube loading — a technology filtered down from B&W's flagship Nautilus design — intended to absorb the driver's rear output and reduce distortion at the top end, with the tweeter's ultrasonic response improved for Series 3 to suit high resolution recording formats. Bass and midrange are handled by a 165mm woven Kevlar cone driver, supported by a 165mm aluminium cone bass driver using B&W's mushroom construction, restricted to bass frequencies only and operating in parallel with the Kevlar unit — an arrangement that reduces excursion demand and lowers distortion in both the bass and the midrange during heavy bass passages. Low-frequency extension reaches down to 44Hz (±3dB), with useful output to 34Hz at -6dB, and crossover points sit at 150Hz and 4kHz. Sensitivity is rated at 90dB/2.83V/1m with a nominal impedance of 8 Ohms (3 Ohms minimum), making the DM603 S3 compatible with a wide range of amplifiers rated between 25 and 150 Watts. At 19.5kg per speaker the cabinets are solidly built — measuring 910mm tall by 204mm wide and 287mm deep — and the well extended bass response and substantial output capability make the DM603 S3 fully at home in medium to large size rooms.
