The Audio-Technica ATM450 is a side-address cardioid condenser instrument microphone built around a fixed-charge back plate permanently polarized condenser element. Its frequency response runs from 40 Hz to 20,000 Hz, and it handles up to 152 dB SPL — aided by a switchable 10 dB pad — making it equally at home on loud transient sources like snare drums and guitar cabinets as on more delicate acoustic instruments. The side-address configuration keeps the body of the mic out of the way in tight placements such as between toms, near cymbals, or under a piano lid.
