About This Model
The Sony PS-J20 is a compact belt-drive stereo turntable built around simplicity and small footprint rather than audiophile ambition. It runs at two speeds with a static balanced tonearm, operating semi-automatically with 33 and 45 RPM settings and stereo RCA outputs. A built-in phono amplifier can be switched off if you'd rather run the deck into a dedicated phono input, and the output cable with stereo phono plugs is permanently fixed to the turntable. The chassis measures 320mm deep by 270mm wide and 88.5mm high and weighs just 1.9kg, with a 204mm pick-up arm and a power draw of only 4 watts. Signal-to-noise ratio is quoted at better than 50dB, with the deck supplied with Sony's CN-234 cartridge and an S-shaped headshell arrangement. The midi-sized design means an LP overhangs the left side of the unit, with a cut-out in the dust cover to accommodate it.
