The Rode NT1-A is a large-diaphragm true condenser microphone built around a 1-inch gold-sputtered, edge-terminated capsule with a fixed cardioid polar pattern. It covers the full audible spectrum from 20 Hz to 20 kHz and is particularly noted for its exceptionally low self-noise of just 5.0 dB(A), making it well suited to capturing quiet acoustic sources such as vocals, acoustic guitar, and voice-over work. It handles up to 137 dB SPL, so it can cope with louder sources without distortion, and its 100-ohm output impedance pairs cleanly with most preamps. The microphone requires 48V phantom power, connects via a gold-plated XLR output, and is housed in an all-metal nickel-finish body. Its high-frequency response has a forward, bright character that can add presence to recordings, though recording slightly off-axis or applying gentle EQ can help manage sibilance depending on the source.
