The A77 Mk1 features a 3 motor transport mechanism with electronically regulated capstan motor and solenoid operated servo brakes, making it reliable and durable. It was available in quarter track or half track configurations and could be ordered with various speed settings, the most common being 3 3/4 ips (9.5 cm/s) and 7 1/2 ips (19 cm/s). The A77 Mk1 is also noted for its high-quality sound and is often compared to other professional models like the Studer.
