About this model
The Pioneer F-447 is a Digital Synthesizer Tuner released in 1990, using a Direct Digital Decoder Type III PLL detector combined with ARTS IF circuitry to convert incoming signals to digital form before producing stereo analogue output. Its FM section employs a double 10.7 MHz IF system - upconverted to 21.4 MHz then down to 1.26 MHz - alongside phase-linear ceramic filters and a dual MOSFET RF amplifier for low-noise reception. A 6th gang varicap diode handles local oscillator control, governed by an 8-bit binary code read from the dial scale. Tuning is handled via 3-speed manual and automatic modes with 24 presets split across two groups of 12, and wide/narrow IF filter switches are provided for both FM and AM bands. A 5-segment signal meter and single-digit signal strength readout aid reception optimisation, while multipath output terminals allow for antenna alignment. Pioneer quoted a 90 dB signal-to-noise ratio in mono, and independent testing recorded spectacularly low stereo distortion with sensitivity of 15 dBf for 50 dB quieting in mono.
