About This Model

The NAD 7020 is a stereo receiver released in 1979, built around NAD's philosophy of prioritising real-world listening performance over headline specifications. It delivers 20 watts per channel into 8 ohms with a dynamic headroom of 3.0 dB, meaning it can briefly swing up to 40 watts per channel on transients - well beyond what the rated figure suggests. The phono stage accepts both Moving Magnet and Moving Coil cartridges, making it a natural partner for a turntable setup, while rear-panel preamp out and power amp in jacks allow an external equaliser or processor to be inserted into the signal chain. The FM tuner uses a junction FET front end with three ceramic I.F. filters and a PLL multiplex decoder for clean stereo separation, and an adjustable ferrite rod aerial handles AM reception. A soft clipping circuit protects the output transistors during high-volume use, and an audio muting switch reduces circuit noise and extends the practical range of the volume control. Rounding out the connectivity are an AUX input, tape monitor loop, 75-ohm and 300-ohm antenna terminals, and a stereo headphone output.
