About This Model

The Hughes & Kettner Red Box Pro is a passive analog cabinet simulator and DI box designed to capture the characteristic sound of a guitar speaker cabinet - including the high-mid presence, mid scoop, and bass response of 4x12 and 2x12 configurations - without any active electronics or digital processing. It accepts a signal via its 1/4" input at either line or speaker level (selectable), passes the signal through to a physical speaker via the 1/4" Thru output, and delivers a balanced, microphone-level XLR output powered by 48V phantom power from a mixing desk or audio interface. A ground lift switch, cabinet simulation on/off switch, and input level selector give it practical flexibility for both live and studio use. Because it is entirely passive, it introduces no noise floor of its own, making it a clean, reliable tool for recording direct or feeding a PA without a microphone in front of a cabinet.
