About This Model
The Denon DR-171 is a stereo cassette tape deck produced in 1984, designed for both recording and playback. It uses a DC servo motor and hard permalloy record/playback head alongside a double-gap ferrite erase head, achieving a frequency response of 20–18,000 Hz with metal tape and wow and flutter of just 0.05% wrms. Both Dolby B and Dolby C noise reduction are on board, pushing the signal-to-noise ratio to up to 74 dB with Dolby C engaged. Line and microphone inputs are provided, with automatic switching between the two, and a headphone output is included alongside standard RCA line outputs. The deck also supports timer-based recording and playback, making it a practical and versatile unit for home hi-fi use.
