About This Model

The DBX 263X is a half-rack analog de-esser built around a level-independent detection circuit that uses two RMS detectors - one tracking low-frequency power, one tracking high-frequency power - and applies gain reduction only when treble energy exceeds bass energy. This approach keeps de-essing transparent and program-dependent rather than simply clamping everything above a fixed frequency. A front-panel slider controls the amount of gain reduction (up to 20 dB variable attenuation), and switchable Broadband or High Frequency detection modes let you tailor the processing to vocals, room mics, or other sources. The tunable frequency range, combined with adjustable threshold, ratio, attack, and release, gives precise control over where and how the unit responds. A front-panel high-impedance ¼" input also allows the 263X to double as a DI box, and the rear-panel 600-ohm line output handles levels up to +18 dBV. Frequency response runs the full 20 Hz-20 kHz audio band with THD of 0.1% and an input noise floor of -85 dB unweighted.
