About This Model

The KEF Q50a is a passive Dolby Atmos-enabled speaker module designed to add overhead sound reflections to a surround sound system without ceiling-mounted speakers. At its core is KEF's Uni-Q concentric driver, which combines a 5.25" aluminum woofer/mid cone and a 1" vented aluminum dome tweeter in a single unit, crossing over at 2500 Hz. The sealed enclosure — with sound-absorbing foam behind the magnetic grille — keeps the design clean and controlled, covering a frequency range of 105 Hz to 18.5 kHz. Rated at 8 ohms impedance and 86 dB sensitivity, with a maximum power handling of 100 watts, these speakers are straightforward to drive with most AV receivers. They can sit flat on top of front speakers for reflected Atmos height effects, or mount to a wall via dual keyhole slots on the rear.
