About this model
The Astell & Kern HC5 is a bus-powered portable DAC and headphone amplifier that connects via USB-C, drawing power directly from the host device with no internal battery required. At its core sits an AKM AK4499EX DAC chip paired with an AK4191EQ digital processor, supporting PCM playback up to 32-bit/384kHz and native DSD up to DSD256. Output options include a 3.5mm single-ended jack and a 4.4mm balanced output, while a 1.62-inch OLED display and a 150-step precision rotary wheel provide straightforward on-device control. Six selectable DAC filters and Astell & Kern's DAR (Digital Audio Remaster) upsampling technology - available in three modes - give listeners meaningful control over how their audio is processed and presented.
