Anglo American - Vintage Guitar Zither

Generally good condition, the paint has come off in some places and mainly the corners. Please see the photos. All strings are playing good apart from one which will need replacing. 

Key Features:

• Design:

  • Sound Box: Typically made of wood, the sound box is the resonating chamber that amplifies the sound of the strings.

  • Dimensions: Usually around 20" high x 16" wide x 2.5" deep (510mm x 410mm x 60mm).

• Strings:

  • Diatonic and Chromatic Strings: The instrument features two sets of strings. One set is tuned to a diatonic or chromatic scale, while the other set is tuned to make various chords.

  • No Fretboard: Unlike traditional guitars, the guitar zither lacks a fretboard, making it a fretless instrument.

• Tuning:

  • Melody Strings: These strings are tuned to a specific scale, allowing for the playing of melodies.

  • Chord Strings: These strings are tuned to produce chords, often in the principal key of the melody strings.

• Playing Method:

  • Strumming and Plucking: The instrument is played by strumming or plucking the strings, similar to a zither or autoharp.

  • No Damping Bars: Unlike the Autoharp, the guitar zither does not have damping bars for producing chords, which means chords are played by strumming the appropriate strings.
